About
Welcome to Cooking During Stolen Moments!
My name is Kate and I’m a stay-at-home mom to 4 kids and wife to one wonderful man. Our kids are 10, 5, 4, and 2.
The dinner rush hour used to be the bane of my existence. Hungry toddlers strapped to my leg…impatient older child…fussy baby…you know the drill. I knew I had to find a better way. So I fumbled and fought with my kitchen until I found a system that worked for me. I now take advantage of stolen moments throughout the day to prepare dinner and I have completely eliminated those dinner hour crazies.
That means that most days dinner is done by 1:00 pm and I can shut down the kitchen. However, that rarely happens because the kitchen is my playground and I love experimenting with new recipes. I’m usually surrounded by little helpers who love being in the kitchen as much as I do.
I try to cook from scratch all the time, although there are those days when a convenience item or two are a neccesity. However, canned cream of… has become a dirty word in our house.
Our monthly grocery budget is $350 for the 6 of us. That total includes cleaning supplies, toilet paper and diapers. As a result, all of the recipes I post will be fairly budget-friendly.
In addition to Cooking During Stolen Moments, I maintain a personal blog – A Simple Walk. I am also the owner of Stolen Moments Menu Planning, providing menu plans to help families save some time and money in the kitchen.

Hi there! Just found your blog when searching for tilapia freezer recipes. (Your tilapia pepper recipe looks awesome and I’ll be trying it soon!) I love that “canned cream of…” is a dirty word in your house! It has been in mine for pretty much my entire life!
I’m amazed at your budget!! We have only 3 of us but one on the way, and i have been trying to cut ours back, so I’ll definitely be reading more
Nice to meet you!

I would love to see what your grocery list is like and see how you do your purchasing. Our grocery bill for a family of four (2 adults, 6yr, 3yr) is around $800.

I am usually exhausted by 5:00! This is changing how I am thinking about dinner. I have no idea how I ended up here but I am happy that I did.
Thank you for your ideas and inspiration.

Hi, I’m wondering how you’re able to stretch your food budget so far. I also have 4 kiddos and we tend to spend 600 a month on food. I would love to learn ways to cut our costs.
thank you!

Wow!!! $350/month including diapers, toilet papter and cleaning supplies is very impressive! We are a family of 5, soon to be 6 and our bill is double for food alone. Look forward to following your blog and becoming a more thrifty shopper. We do live in California and I do buy mostly organic; so that might be part of the “problem”. Either way, my husband would definitely appreciate my dilligence at lowering the monthly food bill. Thanks for all you time and tips.

I just found your blog and I look forward to exploring it more. As new mom to a 3 month old I’m still finding it hard to find enough time to cook. Like you, I really don’t like using a lot of pre-made stuff and I really miss cooking! It was one of my favorite hobbies pre-baby. So I’m hoping to get some great ideas for cooking in those “stolen moments.” Thanks!

Hi Kate, I just subscribed to your menu planning service after I heard about it from moneysavingmom. I did not see the password discount until after I placed my order. Is there a way to get the moneysavingmom discount price for the next month if I choose to use your service again? I’m excited to try out the meal plan! Thanks!

I had got a dream to begin my own business, but I did not have enough of cash to do it. Thank heaven my close colleague advised to use the personal loans. So I took the consolidation loans and realized my old dream.
