Family Favorite Chili Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 green pepper, diced
  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 15 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cup cooked kidney beans (or 1 can)
  • 1 1/2 cup cooked garbanzo beans (or 1 can)
  • 2 tbsp chili powder*
  • 1 tsp cumin*
  • 2 tsp cocoa powder*
  • 2 tsp garlic powder*
  • 1 tsp salt*
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper*
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper*
  • 1/2 tsp allspice*
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes*

Instructions

  • Brown ground beef with onion and green pepper in a large sauce pan or stock pot. Drain.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients, bring to a slow boil, cover and reduce heat. Let simmer as long as desired, but at least 15 minutes. The longer it simmers the more the flavors will develop.

*NOTE – All spice measurements are an approximation as I just dump and stir. Adjust to taste as you go.
