I need to end my day with a little something sweet nearly every day. My husband and I have a coffee and dessert ritual we share together before bed each night. Sometimes our dessert is as simple as a cookie or small scoop of ice cream and other times, we go all out. (Everything in moderation, right?)
So this list of Simple Desserts with Lots of Wow Factor is right up my alley. Thanks to Sheena from Two Girls and an Appetite for this fabulous guest post full of quick yet utterly delicious dessert ideas. I think any of these options would be a hit when entertaining, or even just when shared with a cup of coffee before bed.
I love desserts. I get excited planning and thinking about the next recipe I want to try. Sometimes though, I need something quick and easy that still looks amazing. When that is the case, I turn to one of my favorite simple desserts that still look special.
The first is a yummy Mini Oreo Trifle. I made these for our girls’ get together and they were a huge hit. They look so fancy and just beg to be eaten.
- Crushed Oreos
- Instant Chocolate Pudding (prepared according to package directions)
- Cool Whip
- Sprinkles
1. Layer each cup with crushed Oreos, chocolate pudding, and then cool whip. Add sprinkles to the top, if desired. Let sit in fridge until chilled and serve with spoons.
Another mouthwatering and special looking treat, are these little brownie bites. A simple boxed brownie mix made in mini muffin tins with piped frosting and a strawberry on top. In this picture, I used a wonderfully creamy and not overly sweet flour frosting from Our Best Bite.
In keeping with the awesome combo of strawberries and chocolate this Brownie Strawberry Shortcake is another WOW dessert that takes almost no effort. Another boxed brownie mix, made in a pie tin this time. Feel free to make brownies from scratch depending on how much time you have they will work great too. (Kate here – I think this would be perfect with my Ditch The Box And Never Look Back brownies for a from-scratch option.) When they are cooled, top with this amazing frosting then sprinkle with cut strawberries.
Cream Cheese Topping
- 3 Ounces Cream Cheese, softened
- 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 Cup Cool Whip
1. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Fold in cool whip. Spread over your favorite dessert.
I am just now realizing that all my “go-to” desserts have chocolate in them….now why could that be?!? Oh yes, that is because chocolate is amazing and nobody can ever get enough.
This little presentation is chocolate fondue with all the fixings. You don’t need a chocolate fountain to make this look impressive. I think the platter of strawberries, graham crackers, marshmallows, bananas, brownies, Oreos, and cookies look as good if not better than the chocolate. In the end, if all else fails, nobody ever complained about an ice cream sundae with all the toppings.
I hope this quick list of easy desserts has inspired you to come up with your own and satisfied your sweet tooth.
