Excuse me while a veer a bit off track from the usual posts here at Cooking During Stolen Moments. I don’t usually go into many personal details on here since it’s all about the food. But for me, food and home are synonomous.
Our family lives just outside the quaint village of Milford, Michigan, about 30 miles northwest of Detroit. We consider Milford our hometown. It’s a town that truly embodies small town living with big town aspirations.
We spend many weekends walking around the shops in the downtown area. They’re all small businesses with owners that care about their clientele. Is there any better feeling than walking into a store or cafe and being able to carry on a conversation with the owner like you’re old friends? In Milford, chances are you probably are friends.
The village is host to several parades throughout the year and the community shows up en masse. It’s great to be part of the large crowd that feels like family.
The town is situated on the banks of the Huron River, adding to its picturesque back drop.
Picnicking by the river and playing at the community playground are two of our kids’ favorite pastimes.
Our absolute favorite event is a yearly arts and crafts street festival. We look forward to it all summer long. When the weekend arrives, you can bet we’ll be there for many hours. We soak in the sights, smells and the community feeling.
Our children consider Milford home. And I can’t say that I blame them!
What is your hometown like? Is there a certain event or quality that makes your town the best?

If you write the winning entry, you will receive a concert in your hometown featuring hot new country group Love and Theft and ABC Soap Stars.
I have partnered with KRAFT Foods to help promote the “Single Best Town” in America program. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about my own hometown experiences and hosting a giveaway where the prize has been provided by KRAFT Singles. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.
