Foodie Fave Five with Good Cheap Eats

In our house, we are all about food that tastes good but is still cheap to make. That’s why Jessica’s site, Good Cheap Eats, really resonates with me. She definitely knows a thing or two about making delicious meals with frugality in mind.

On top of that, Jessica is a fan of freezer cooking.  Her freezer meals make you realize that food for your freezer doesn’t have to fit in a tidy, casserole-shaped box. Just those two facts alone make me a fan! Once you take the time to read her posts and get to know her, you feel like more than a fan; you feel like a friend.

So I’m thrilled to share with you the Top 5 Freezer Friendly recipes from Good Cheap Eats. Enjoy!

Meatballs, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

Bacon and Spinach Quiche

Garlic Focaccia

Chicken and Wild Rice Bake

Applesauce Walnut Bread

Jessica Fisher, aka FishMama, is chief cook and bottle washer to seven adorable people, aged 1 to 40something. She shares parenting tips at LifeasMOM as well delicious ways to act your wage at Good Cheap Eats. (And she’s in love with her deep freeze….)

Foodie Fave Five with The Gluten-Free Homemaker

I feel so fortunate that our family doesn’t have any specific dietary restrictions or allergies, at least as of yet. However, I have an immense amount of respect for those families that deal with them as a part of life. I know you just do what you have to do, but I’m often amazed at the great ways they are able to work around their diets and still create wonderful, family-friendly meals.

Linda, The Gluten-Free Homemaker, is one of those who inspires me with her positive attitude, creativity and kitchen skills on a daily basis. She has to follow a very strict gluten-free diet, but you’d never know her meals are born out of necessity with just a quick glance through her blog. Everything looks so delicious! Beyond just the recipes though, Linda offers a wonderful resource through her blog for gluten-free families. Whether you are just in the beginning stages of eating gluten-free, a seasoned gluten-free pro, or just looking for some great family meals, you are sure to find a wealth of useful information on Linda’s site.

Beef Barbecue Sandwich – My family loves this sandwich, but also enjoys other fillings.  It could be made with a regular foccacia bread recipe.

Gluten-Free Focaccia Bread/Hamburger BunsEven though the rest of my family does not have to eat gluten-free, they love eating this bread.  I like to bake and freeze extra hamburger buns for summer cookouts.

Gold Potato Casserole -  This is a favorite that my mom makes.  It’s great with almost any meal.

Gluten-Free Pancakes – Who doesn’t love pancakes?  These are a breakfast favorite at our house.

Pecan Praline Cake – The secret to this delicious cake is the “topping” which is put into the bottom of the pan.  If you don’t bake gluten-free, just use your favorite yellow cake mix or recipe.

About Linda:

I’m a wife and homeschooling mother of three teenage boys. In 2000 I was diagnosed with celiac disease which propelled me into the world of gluten free cooking a baking. I have learned that gluten free can be delicious and my family will attest to that. Therefore, I never apologize for serving gluten free food. Through my blog I enjoy helping others who are new to the gluten-free diet and those who have been at it for a while but are looking for new inspiration. Stop by The Gluten-Free Homemaker for more tips, recipes and inspiration.

This has me wondering…do any of you have to follow specific, allergy-based diets? If you do, you have my utmost respect and admiration!
