*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!!! ***

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you about our hometown? I also mentioned Kraft’s exciting Single Best Town Contest. Well, now the semifinalists have been selected. Head over to the Single Best Town contest page and read about some wonderful hometowns. (Nothing like doing some easy armchair traveling!) Then, vote for your favorite.

There are definitely some interesting hometowns in the running. I had a great time reading through all the semi-finalists and selecting my favorite, although that wasn’t an easy decision. Reading about all those fabulous hometowns make me long for summer in our hometown!

As the days grow slightly longer and slightly warmer, I’m looking forward to the coming spring and summer when I know my family will spend countless hours walking around our hometown. We’ll visit stores, say hi to friends, feed some ducks (and maybe ourselves) and just have a simple, wonderful time. Those are the kinds of afternoons we love best! And our hometown makes it easy to indulge in those simple pleasures.Vote For My Town

Those Single Best Town semifinalists are enjoying a little friendly competition with an awesome grand prize for the winner – a concert in their hometown featuring hot new country group Love and Theft and ABC Soap Stars.

While I don’t have a prize that awesome to give away, I do have something pretty fantastic for you. Two somethings, in fact. How does TWO $125 Amex gift cards sound to you?

To enter the giveaway, go vote for your Single favorite town of the ten semifinalists then come on back to tell me what your Single best afternoon looks like in your own hometown.  I’ll be picking two winners from the comments here at random.

You have until March 23 at 11:59 pm EST to enter the contest. I will announce the two winners on March 24.

Have fun reading and voting! And don’t forget to come back here for your chance to win one of two $125 Amex gift cards.

I have partnered with KRAFT Foods to help promote the “Single Best Town” in America program.  I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about my own hometown experiences and hosting a giveaway where the prize has been provided by KRAFT Singles.  However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

Single best afternoon in our town looks like this: children on bikes, families together, walking, playing at the ballpark – the community being together!

The best afternoon in my hometown is definitely a warm summer day, taking an early picnic dinner to the beach, swimming for awhile, then building a bonfire and roasting marshmallows with family and friends while you watch the sun go down.

I voted for Gastonia, NC…. reminds me of home. My single best afternoon would be spending it with family and friends on the lake…. swimming and riding in a boat followed by a cookout where you get to sit around and enjoy the summer night…..so wonderful!

We live in an unincorported area and it is very rural. So the best hometown afternoon actually happens on our front porch. We have two rockers on the porch and a little table for your iced tea. We just sit and visit. Occaionally neighbors will stop by. When we have guests, we often sit on the porch to visit.

Would love to win the AE gift card..

The single best afternoon in my hometown (Gibbstown, NJ) is a lazy summer day. I love to start off the day with some yard sale hunting with my mama (where I just have to buy a cup of lemonade from every kiddie stand I see), then stop for the daily special at the town’s tiny diner. Then we would pick up the kiddos from home and take them to the old farm in town to pick blueberries. Finish off the day making fresh blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

    Yum!

Being a born and raised Illini girl…I had to vote for Girard!

A single best afternoon in my hometown would look like….all 17 kids in the cul-de-sac playing kickball or baseball together (and getting along). The parents being able to socialize and visit during this time and come together as a community. This usually happens as soon as the weather breaks and we start having warm days. Our family usually stocks up on popsicles so the kids know where to go when they need a break and want to cool off.

My single best afternoon would be a lot like yours. I love being outside so we would go to the park, maybe swim, have a picnic and take a stroll through the neighborhood. I wish there were “fun” things to do here, but at least we’re saving money by being outside!

I voted for Bell Buckle, TN! It’s close to where I live and looks like fun! One of my friend’s in-laws live there, too.

My hometown is Richmond, VA. My favorite thing to do there on a Saturday afternoon was eat a chili burger and cherry coke at Galaxy Diner and browse all the fun stores in Carytown.

Our town has a gorgeous town green right in the middle. It is beautiful and it makes for wonderful days… from the flowering dogwoods in the Spring setting off the church steeples, to the summer picnics and people watching, to crunching fall leaves on a stroll to the public library to the annual Christmas carol sing with the high school band in the huge bandstand… it “screams” New England and it’s gorgeous.

A perfect afternoon in my hometown is spending a few hours in my husband’s boat reading a book while he goes fishing (of course, I also need to make sure my ten-month-old son doesn’t go overboard!) and then enjoying a picnic lunch on the shore, followed by a nap in the sunshine. I can’t wait until the weather gets nicer so I can make this happen!

Well, if I’m being selfish here, then my single best day would be beautiful, sunny weather (not too hot), kids playing outside with Daddy. Me inside reading a good book with my feet up. Then the kids go to bed early, while me and hubby watch a romantic movie and eat chocolate (and maybe a foot rub thrown in there). Haha.

Single best day here in this beautiful town would be sitting out in the sunshine (with sunscreen) while my children played in the yard. I would be reading a great magazine and they would be playing so nicely together, no fighting at all.

The best afternoon in my hometown is spent at our park. It is a fabulous park – lots of playground equipment, a pond full of ducks and geese, and an old carousel. It is a small town so odds are you’ll know someone there. My kids love to run around and my husband and I love to picnic.

The best afternoon in my small town would have to be when the annual Fireman’s Fair is happening. The smells, the lights, the people! Aaah, such fun.

    I voted for Colorado Springs.

I live near Portland, Oregon (my hometown) although I’ve not always remained here. My ideal afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday would be spending time at the “Saturday Market” (it happens Sunday too). Craft booths, a huge food tent, live music. It’s an awesome and huge event every weekend from March to Christmas. Google it and if you ever come to Portland on vacation include it in your itinerary.

I voted for Good Old Days, as it is a similiar representation of my hometown. We host the Ore City Fun Festival around the 4th of July yearly. A wonderful family oriented gathering with a little something for everyone. Children’s games, parade, gospel singing, all types of friendly contests. Former graduates and those that have moved away come back during the festival to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and catch up on “Good Old Times”.

I am lucky enough to live in NYC, so my single best afternoon in NYC looks like this: taking my husband and daughter to our favorite gelato shop on the Upper East Side, heading downtown to visit the MOMA, taking the subway to Chinatown to nosh on some dumplings for dinner, and then going back home to put the little one to sleep, as she listens to her hometown gear up for an evening of fun.

My single best afternoon is sitting on the deck with my son. It’s a favorite for us in the spring, because the summer is just too hot. We kick back with a tall glass of ice tea and some great reading materials. He loves Wimpy Kid…and I love a great mystery. Thanks
