Simple Italian Skillet Meal & Ronzoni Pasta Review

A few weeks ago, Mom Central offered me the opportunity to review some Ronzoni Smart Taste pasta. If you read this site for any length time, I imagine it’s pretty obvious we love pasta. And I am all for eating pasta that’s a little healthier. I’ve tried using whole wheat pasta on several occasions, but my husband has never developed a taste for it. So I was intrigued with Ronzoni.

So, what makes Ronzoni Smart Taste pasta so special? According to Ronzoni…

It’s the first white pasta to be enriched with fiber and calcium — and lots of it. Three times the fiber and calcium equal to an eight-ounce glass of milk. Studies show that many diets are lacking in these two important nutrients. Plus, RONZONI SMART TASTE is lower in calories and fat than traditional pasta.

Reading the package, I thought that sounded great. But I was a little leery about how it would taste and what the texture would be like.

That is the Ronzoni Smart Taste spaghetti after being cooked and drained. It definitely looked and felt like regular spaghetti.

As for the taste, this is a winner! There was no discernible difference at all. I told my husband what it was after he snagged a few noodles out of the colander while I finished up making the sauce. He was definitely surprised. In fact, his exact words were “when you review this, you’ll have to say it tastes like plain old spaghetti noodles, because that’s a compliment!” I have to agree.

I’m not always crazy about giving my kids enriched products, but I felt okay with this pasta. Sure, there were some added ingredients, but not enough to set off my radar.

Obviously, feeding my family a healthy diet is something that is important to me. (We’ll just ignore all those cookies and other things I love to make for the time being.) I absolutely love this Supermom video all about getting kids to eat healthy. Great stuff!

With our Ronzoni Smart Taste spaghetti noodles, I made a simple sauce with some cubed boneless pork chops, olive oil, frozen Italian veggie blend, a can of petite diced tomatoes and some seasonings. It was a great combination that really allowed us to taste the pasta without a heavy sauce overpowering it. Everyone loved it.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Ronzoni Pasta and received a sample of Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta to facilitate my review and a $20 thank-you gift certificate.

  1. I agree. Ronzoni makes some good pasta. Try the whole wheat lasagna noodles! They taste just like the regular ones. I actually like them better b/c it almost seems like they’re sturdier if you get what I mean. No difference in the taste on them. I switched and my family didn’t know until 2 meals later when I told them.

  2. I agree also. I try to do the whole wheat pasta, and just can’t. I’m horribly picky, and many times its a texture thing for me, so the WW pasta loses every time, even with out favorite bolognaise sauce. I love the smart taste pasta though! There is no difference in the flavor or texture, so its what we use now. I do wish my grocer carried it in more varieties though.
