Made these and they tasted wonderful!

Question: The dough was extrememly thick and the cookies did not flatten as cookies normally do in the oven. They were still in little balls! What can I add to make them do that? Milk? Water? More butter?

I will make these again, but they didn't LOOK as good as I wanted them to. Any suggestions?

I love baking cookies for the holidays, but never seem to have the time anymore. My husband's favorite is molassas cookies. I also have a wonderful butter/jam thumbprint cookie and chocolate peanut butter cookies that I love to make. I would love to try these cookies. Could you sub real maple syrup for the extract? Thanks!

I make several kinds of cookies/candies during this time of year, but the one cookie that I absolutely have to make at Christmastime is the candy cane cookie. Brings back memories of my childhood and the Christmas season with extended family all-together. I haven't started on any of it yet- funny how life gets in the way of things that I'd rather do! Merry Christmas!

I do make several cookies just at the holidays. After reading your post, it does amaze me that I only make these cookies once a year:

Turtle bars (chocolate, carmel and pecans)
Squirrel bars (sort of like peanut brittle on a shortbread crust)
Spritz cookies (the butter cookies that you shape with a cookie press and then decorate with 9 million sprinkles)
Strawberry balls (vanilla wafers, coconut and strawberry jello)
Rum Balls
Toffee Bars

and a few more that I can't remember...I guess I should write my list too.

Great blog by the way!
